Since 1907 Australia’s surf lifesavers have saved nearly 500,000 lives. Surf Life Saving Australia boasts more than 110,000 members, of all ages, in 303 surf lifesaving clubs around the Australian coastline. Surf lifesaving and the surf lifesaver have become an integral part of Australia\’s culture and history. The surf lifesaving movement has been responsible for many outstanding developments in national and international lifesaving practices, both in the ocean and on the land. Surf Life Saving Australia has been a pioneer in rescue and resuscitation throughout the world and has a strong research and development focus.
